About this guide

Ho Chi Minh City has more than 7,200 restaurants on TripAdvisor alone. Nobody can eat their way to an honest ranking of that — so we don't pretend to. Instead we start from TripAdvisor's own Travelers' Choice awards (its top tier) and audit them: every winner is cross-checked against Google's rating, review count, price band and address, and re-verified on a monthly cycle.

The method, in full

Both platforms' scores go through the same Bayesian adjustment — a prior of 4.45 with weight 150 — so tiny samples can't outrank large ones. The gap between the adjusted Google and TripAdvisor scores, centered on the median across all 50, is our divergence index: it shows which winners both crowds love and which lean on one platform's audience. No restaurant pays for placement, no listing is sponsored, and closures are flagged, not hidden. The full numbers are downloadable on the open data page under CC BY 4.0.

Known limits

Travelers' Choice voting skews toward places tourists visit, so this list under-represents local legends that never see a foreign reviewer — it's an audit of the award, not a claim to have found every great kitchen in the city. Ward names follow Google's current post-2025 administrative naming.
